Can’t wait and will be buying premium if there is one asap. His last app served me well for years

      • Typical American

Absolutely 0 indication of their nationality, but sure “America bad”

      • Your fundamental premise is wrong. We do have knowledge about it because it’s supposed to be the same app it was before. But lemmy instead of reddit.

And we’re not talking a AAA game here where it’ll cost 60 dollars and there’s no reason to prepurchase. Apps are usually cheaper than a coffee.

      • WeLl WhErEs YoUr StAtE fUnDeD lEmMy ApP

        absolutely zero knowledge

        Used sync for years

        Doubt.jpg

      • As something of a prudent buyer and someone who never preorders anything, I too will be buying premium day one regardless of the state of the app. I can pretty easily defend this decision too; we’ve had a very long time to get to know the developer. He has proven time and time again that he creates a very high quality and high performance application while respecting and treating his users well. I got way more than my money’s worth out of Sync for Reddit and will gladly throw some more money at such a great developer. Not to mention we’re not talking massive amounts of money here… haha

      • Oh the horror, bad American for wanting to support a developer as they launch a new product that is built on the premise of one they used and loved for years.

Instead of supporting a Dev who’s proved themselves, we should harbor deep skepticism and try to skate by on a free product for as long as possible because that $5 is really, really, super, duper gonna break the bank if the app isn’t absolutely everything I want it to be.

Keeping the rule going strong. The more emojis used, the dumber the user. 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  • Are you kidding me? Just checked this community for the first time in a month and this post is 15 minutes old? That’s freaky timing

Aw man, a pre-register? I mean obviously I pre-registered, but you got me super excited for a second lol

It appears that it is getting close to a full release for Sync for Lemmy. My only concert is that it might go to a subscription only method of payment. I’d rather pay a lot for a one time unlock or even like a 2 year unlock instead of a monthly subscription.

Im getting subscription burnout and I’m sick of having to juggle literally a hundred subscriptions every month. If it does go subscription based, sadly I’ll probably pass on it. Which would be a sad close to a long history of using sync.

    • 3 years

Not related to this app, but I agree very much about subscriptions. I cancelled most of mine.

      • I think I’ll be canceling my Prime this year. The single biggest waste of a subscription.

        • 3 years

I have Prime but yeah, thinking about getting rid of that too. I got free transport from Amazon when ordering stuff though so that’s very nice.

          • For me, the goods are worse than ever, and I just don’t care to support amazon’s practices nor China.

Also free shipping is still available for most items if you can wait 3 days. You know they’re going to raise the price again come the beginning of the year.

    • 3 years

There will be a single time payment for ad-free as was the case with Sync for Reddit. Any subscription based model is for the features which are going to require running (and paying) for a server. Even for Ultra (the paid subscription model) we would most likely have a lifetime option.

    • Sync dev can have all my Google opinion rewards money. Pretty much what I use them for.

    • As there is only a handful of lemmy users compared to reddit, I think simply relying on one time purchase is not sustainable for the dev. After the bot accounts purge, there seems to be 1 million lemmy users right now, and only a fraction that is an active users, say, 20% of it (very generous), which translate to 200,000 users. If even 1% of those users bought Sync for Lemmy for $10 (no idea what the actual price will be), it would means 2000 people buy the app. With app store’s 30% cut, that means the dev only got $14,000, which is peanuts assuming he’ll need to support the app as long as the reddit version (10 years or more?).

  • I’m in the beta. It’s great. It really feels like nothing happened.

Layout is the same, etc. Only thing not implemented yet is the inbox.

You guys are in for a treat

Sync for Reddit WAS my first app to open every morning. Sync for Lemmy WILL be the new first :D looking forward!

    • It sounds like it’s already better than my experience with Jerboa. Jerboa’s had an unusual knack at creating/finding Json errors.

Anyone else noticed that Connect for Lemmy has just changed its design? Feels like it’s taken a lot of “inspiration” from Sync…

    • 3 years

I remember the dev of connect was in this community praising sync a little while back so I’m not surprised.

      • 3 years

Connect dev here - I am! Big fan of Sync (which probably comes through in Connect’s design language). RIF and Infinity is also a source of inspiration.

        • I like Connect, thanks for your efforts!

Using it right now in fact. If I reply multiple times, I’d like to report a bug where sometimes it posts comments multiple times.

I’m looking forward to replacing the Sync icon I still have sitting on my homescreen that just throws a 401. Can’t bring myself to kill it.

    • 3 years

I just replaced it with jerboa while waiting, doesn’t even matter what the icon is, my muscle memory still takes me here automatically lol.

I’m still using Zombie Sync for as long as it keeps working. Hopefully Lemmy Sync is ready by then.

    • 3 years

I’m using a modified version with my own API key which is scratching the itch nicely at the moment. Can’t wait to use Lemmy via Sync too!

  • I paid for regular Sync, I paid for Dev Sync when the new UI was only in that channel, and I will gladly pay for Lemmy Sync the second I can!

    • I also ended up buying each version of sync and have registered for this one. It’ll be an instant buy.

  • I’m excited and pre-registered. I didn’t pay for sync for reddit, but now that I am more educated about the life of developers and third party apps, I will def pay for sync for lemmy. I have heard good things about some of the existing apps, but I have just been using the web browser while I wait for the sync app to be ready, and I am so ready to download and use it. <3

I donated to Boost for Reddit. I will probably donate to Boost for Lemmy as well. With the nature of Lemmy though, we can’t forget to donate to our favorite instances too!

      • I still don’t fully understand the fediverse, but I’m starting to. I know that the .world or the .ml or the .ee or whatever are the “instances” and that I can see all the stuff on all of them even tho I use .world. I am sure I will understand it better once I can start using sync again (or at least start understanding it in the capacity in which I’ll be using it). How do I support an instance? I’m also a broke bitch and don’t have a ton of disposable income, but reddit was and lemmy now is a service I appreciate and rely on, so I want to support the people providing said service, although I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to use sync for free for essentially the last decade.

        • Yeah, anything after the @ is the instance. Each instance hosts some of the communities (subreddits) and some of the users. Donate to the instance you’re signed up to as a first priority and then maybe any other that hosts a load of communities you care about or do a particularly good job at something.

But if you’re broke and can’t afford it, don’t worry! On the other hand those of us who DO have a little bit of disposable income should donate a little here and there to help bring about the internet we want to see.

        • 3 years

There’s a donate button on the top of the page (it looks like a heart) you can donate there. Second, a little off topic trick but did you know Mastodon users can communicate with us as well!! its pretty cool

          • I was never a Twitter user so I didn’t feel the need to become a mastodon user, but I do think that’s very cool, so now I can see stuff on mastodon without having to be a mastadonian? (Ps thanks for chatting)

            • 3 years

Only from Mastodonians that put in the effort to post to a Lemmy community or respond to a Lemmy post. Still neat to see it working though. If you’re really interested you could try Kbin. It interacts with all Lemmy and Mastodon content.

  • Can’t wait to delete all the other lemmy apps I’ve been trying. Most do most things well, but none do everything well like Sync.

    • Tbd, not saying it wont be good. But will temper my expectations until I see the app and how it feels.

      • 3 years

It’s the same UI experience as the reddit version so I don’t see any reason to not be excited about it.

        • 3 years

The problem is that there are some issues which will not be solved by the app like links to posts on another instances

          • 3 years

In a browser this can be solved with a userscript. Could the same be done within an app?

          • 3 years

Ok. So that’s one thing sync can’t do. Are you dismissing it based on one feature?

            • 3 years

I’m saying that it is not going to be the lemmy UX savior

              • 3 years

Idk, that’s one pretty minor inconvenience imo. I wouldn’t be surprised if the links can be corrected by the app anyways since there are some browser extensions/scripts that can do it on desktop. It’s not an unsolvable problem.
