That’s legacy code from the 80s. Please update it when you get the chance.

Use perl exec to run a bash script. Now you’re confused, too. And not just about why you’re using perl.

I finally bought the Claire Obscure hype after seeing tons of group cosplays of it at DragonCon. I thought I had bought a turn based RPG, but it’s actually a rhythm game in disguise. I do not like the dodge or die mechanics.

Just keep coding. Feel free to use as many guardrails and tools as necessary in your IDE (linters, auto completes, mouse over definitions, etc) to make it easier. To use a language metaphor, you want to be focusing on how to communicate, not on things like who vs whom, the subjunctive case, or adjective order. If you need projects, there are plenty of lists out there, but doing something you actually care about and breaking it down into chunks small enough to do is probably more sustainable than a bunch of random tasks someone else recommends.
As for learning new languages: when you have to. If there’s something specific you want to do and it’s only done in a specific language, then go for it, but there’s nothing inherently good about knowing multiple languages, especially if spreading yourself thin prevents you from improving in your main language (or is detrimental because it muddles the patterns you’ve learned in each).
Even over the mini disc? Blasphemy!

Chained Echoes: Ashes of Elrant. Enjoying it, but feels a bit sparse.

Too much Shogun Showdown.
DLC came out for Chained Echoes and I started that only to realize I needed a refresher on some of the characters and the plot. Once that’s done, I’m looking forward starting it for reals.

No, they were not directly involved and no, pimping minors was not proven in court. Money laundering and conspiracy to facilitate prostitution were the charges that stuck. In fact, prosecutors claiming they were involved in child sex trafficking caused a mistrial https://apnews.com/article/business-trials-3b1c9d3e59e90cd60764b3eb989fec80
The point is not about what they did or didn’t do, it’s that if you try to go outside the system you get hammered.

That’s what Backpage tried to do when the cc processors pulled out. The owners of Backpage were at some point charged with money laundering among many many other crimes. The years of legal battles that started in 2018 drove one of them to suicide. Would not recommend.

Falcom spoiled me forever by offering a startup option to continue from last save that skips all the logos, intros, etc.

Seems like they use that to circumvent other parts of the gpl, in spirit and possibly in the letter of the law. Others have more and better things to say about it than I:

I guess you consider the parts of open source that are contributed to be owned by the contributors? I don’t think that’s how open source works nor how it should work.
IBM doesn’t bankroll Red Hat? Buddy, IBM owns Red Hat https://www.redhat.com/en/about/press-releases/ibm-closes-landmark-acquisition-red-hat-34-billion-defines-open-hybrid-cloud-future

I don’t see the problem with that. Red Hat is bankrolled by IBM. I don’t have any qualms about them facing competition, even underhanded competition which I don’t think this is. Contributing to open source doesn’t and shouldn’t guarantee financial compensation, customers, whatever.

As somebody that uses valkey, I’m happy there’s drama.
