Something will replace it, they’ve clearly said this. That along with rumors about directly rewarding users with cash for earning karma does not bode well for me.

When the blackouts started no one had a clue which of the alternatives would stand out as a viable option.
It’s an exchange where you can exchange a token of the same name (their token). The primary purpose is not for that token, it’s mainly known for being an exchange.
