I can be controversial or annoying because I always require proof and facts for whatever people are saying/claiming. This has gotten me into a lot of heated debates, even got myself banned from “YouShouldKnow” for saying I need more proof of Israeli’s genocide (that was long ago, got more proof and changed my mind). If I do not agree on some subjectively obvious topic, please do not assume I’m being unfriendly, evil or a troll. I do try my best to approach any subject with neutral and open mind. Just call me autistic with OCD
I’m still angry even 15 years later after a teacher lowered my grade just because I checked “USB” as capable technologies for video transmission. There are literally USB monitors.
Granted, back then it really wasn’t popular and bandwidth was shit, but it was capable of it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but initial news about it serving malicious updates were false. You never got anything malicious thru updates, neither was the exe file/installer tampered with. The worst they actually did was redirect you to a fake site when pressing download, where the malicious file was distributed. GitHub and signed versions were never affected. What’s also interesting is that the attacker selectively redirected people, not all of them. I always installed n++ using Ninite, so I’m in the clear.
The whole thing seems blown out of proportions. The amount of affected people is likely very small.
I’m banned from “You Should Know” and only found out recently, got no clue why. Reminds me of those random reddit bans.

I’ve always felt sus about using canisters instead of compressor/fan. They use gas which instantly freezes the surface, which introduces some serious material stress in the long term. Also, with cold surfaces but warm air comes condensation
You can’t even post on many main subs like /r/videos. I mean, it will appear that you’re posting, but no posts are visible. I’m not sure what’s up with those subs, they’re very popular so should be getting a new post every minute, but there’s new one every 20 minutes or so, so it’s safe to assume nearly all are getting removed
You rarely sell the product - you sell the userbase. Rebuilding server or website is easy. Good luck making another reddit or Lemmy a viable thing. Seemingly the main reason why Lemmy isn’t a dead platform is because reddit severely fucked up

But why? Humans still moderate it, everything can be deleted, humans can be corrupted and bought. I can bet my left ball on the fact that if some corpo offered every community mod 1 million dollars to sell the community or something, nearly all would take it. Nothing personal against Lemmy mods, it’s just human nature.

Surely their detection isn’t that great? What would happen if you sandboxed a 3rd party reddit client and patch it with lucky patcher (edit: to remove Google services access and whatever else that could help anonymity)? I’m assuming your IP changes anyway
