I still use Reddit for some niche subs. I would advise on using something like continuum to browse anonymously.

Otherwise, create an account and use it to save some posts to view later. Creating an account requires an API key now so search online on how to do that.

What I am looking for is a way to storing my personal files at home. I am not looking for internet connected device that I can access remotely.

It will be mainly used to store my personal photos and videos, and not used to stream movies to a device.

Should be accessible by devices such as android, windows, and iOS.

The number of old pics and videos that keep reposting is through the roof.

r/AskReddit has dropped in quality. It used to keep me busy and entertained for ages.

The only reason I use Reddit now are for old niche posts that answer specific questions. Other than that, I find my selfing going to lemmy first these days.

Lemmy has less content than Reddit, but isn’t quieter. You will surely get more personal user engagement here.

That’s one of the issues I had when on Reddit. The developer used to go AWOL for extended periods of time. Not an issue on Reddit but definitely an issue here. Since then, I have switched to infinity for Reddit and kept using free apps.

Now on lemmy, I still use free apps (mainly voyager) and wouldn’t pay money for sync.

On an additional note, I see the developer of boost doing something similar.

I think what would help here if a short message or template can be created for average users to be able to post on other platforms. Something short and to the point.

Reddit really lives on old content. Loads of useful advice from real people, helpful recommendations, and questions and answers make Reddit still relevant.

It’s a different story for new content though. Videos and images have been reposted as hell, AskReddit now just revolves around asking the same set of questions, and a lot of niche communities have slowed down.

Another reason why people shouldn’t expect free speech online on such platforms.

I have been banned from few subreddits and I wouldn’t appeal.

Shit move from Spez. But let’s be honest, the issue is that he might be able to paywall some subreddits that are niche and provide support on certain subjects that usually can’t be found anywhere.

Lemmy lacks on users and content that’s a fact. But you get no engagement at all from Reddit.

I can post a comment there and see another 800 people posting comments. You rarely get replies from anyone. I don’t care about likes and awards. But it’s nice to see someone agreeing or disagreeing with you.

One reason why I didn’t like sync. The app is great but the developer tends to just disappear.

Honestly, I don’t think users would migrate from Reddit to lemmy if they shut down old.reddit.

At this point, and after all that happened, users would switch to the new Reddit and continue using it.

Reddit has a massive amount of users and content there is generated at a huge amount. A lot of users would continue using Reddit even if they aren’t happy with the interface, just for the content really.

I actually used Google to search on Reddit. Reddit search sucks.
