Not to be pedantic, not holding copyright ≠ FOSS.
FOSS explicitly means that the developer has a copyright and is explicitly giving a license for people to use it with FOSS provisions.
It would be more accurate to say AI Vibe code is in the public domain.
There is a “Commons Clause” that people can add but there is some controversy as to whether adding this clause is enforceable. It very much would violate the strict definition of “FOSS”.
That said, I very much am against corporations that make full use of FOSS without contributing anything meaningful in return. I personally believe companies that make over $1M in revenue should absolutely donate something to the FOSS products they use.
Not only that but developers need to stop using permissive licenses like MIT or CC0. Moving to something like GPL3 (and specifically version 3) would go a long way for companies to stop treating open source as a well they can exploit.
Reverse engineering prohibitions are the dumbest things.
Let’s say I do this. Arduino sues me. Okay. Now what? What money are they going to take?
Hell, this would be a perfect time for everyone to form an LLC and purchase Arduinos as the LLC and then release your research under your corporate name as CC0. If your LLC has no revenue, you as an individual are legally protected.
Arduino can try to put the genie back in the bottle but good luck.
Better companies than Arduino have tried to prevent hardware reverse engineering and have failed. Apple being the biggest company I can think of that have tried to sue people for releasing schematics of their motherboards.
Yes you can but the practicality of doing so is very limiting. Hell I ran my own CA for my own internal use and even I found it annoying.
The entire CA ecosystem is terrible and only exists to ensure connections are encrypted at this point. There’s no validation or any sort of authority to say one site is better than another.
My experience with self-hosted apps on my phone are limited. I’ve never used Plex so I never used it’s mobile app.

My understanding of current blockchain technology is that it’s only permanent so long as someone is online maintaining the block integrity. If enough machines go down, or if enough machines come up that refute it, then anyone can push an alternate history.

It gets harder when your contributors start scaling way up and go international. What might be customary in one culture may be considered rude by another. Allowing for people to be different while also maintaining decorum is important.
I worked on a FOSS project that was very small (~5 devs) and I really had to get used to how upfront the German devs were. We knew each other enough but still.

Basically a set of rules in the database to make sure that it is immediately consistent.
NoSQL databases offer eventual consistency in exchange for speed so they are generally not considered to be ACID compliant.
Most traditional databases (MySQL, postgresql, etc.) are.
There are a couple of emerging companies that try to tackle speed for traditional databases. CockroachDB offers a postgress-based database that scales more like NoSQL while still offering ACID transactions.
TiDB is a similar company but for MySQL.

Sadly yes. Ever since he became a “philanthropist”, people come out of the woodwork to say he’s “one of the good ones”. I have to remind them that he may be “good” now but he can still pay his fucking taxes and be better.

Like many things, you should use JavaScript if you need it. If you don’t need remote data sources or live refreshes, pure html and css work perfectly fine and, I would go so far as to say, may even be necessary for resistance web pages.
This is especially true if you’re using tor. JavaScript can leak your IP address and sites will work more reliability if you have static content that’s refreshed on the back end than using a bloated next.js app taking up RAM.
I implicitly trust FOSS more than closed source but because that trust has been earned through millions of FOSS projects.
On occasion, I will dive deep into a codebase especially if I have a bug and I think I can fix it.
You can’t do this with closed source or even source available code because there is no guarantee that the code you have is the code that’s been compiled.

I go for a good enough solution. I know better solutions exist but I’m limited by time and empathy.
My university fixed this by putting up chain linked poles/dividers that were just tall enough that you couldn’t cross over without getting your foot caught.
