• As far as I know, Lemmy/Piefed/Mbin is the biggest alternative to Reddit, so if it’s too small for you, there may not be a good alternative.

If you do want to stick it out, I’d recommend being liberal with blocking users you don’t want to see. I think there are a lot of good people here.

      • I’m not familiar with Quora or other specific alternatives - when I said Lemmy is the biggest alternative, that’s just based on what I’ve heard elsewhere, such as the “Reddit Alternatives” subreddit.

I can’t say I’ve experienced anything as bad as that kind of harassment - sorry to hear that. One thing you could consider is making a new account on beehaw.org - it’s Lemmy as well but with the goal of a safe, friendly environment, and they do a lot of deferating and moderation to keep it that way. So it would be a “smaller” Lemmy experience, but maybe a more pleasant one.

      • this place is still so small and the culture here seems overwhelmingly more judgmental then what I’m usually used to I have to agree. People originally came to Lemmy for some “fresh air”. How about discussions without having to call anyone that disagrees with you an “asshole”? I really wanted Lemmy to take off but in my opinion it turned off many as Lemmy turned into a belief narrative. If you don’t 100% toe the line of the narrative you are condemned. And piled on by many others who also believe anyone with an opinion different than theirs’s has to be “eradicated.” I tried starting groups and participating in groups that dealt with interests that would avoid all the bullshit name calling. And most of them got zero traction, and slowly died to zero participation. I still enjoy coming here and participating in some of the groups. I also prefer interacting with smaller numbers of users than the thousands in many reddit groups.

Ironically my point will be made by this comment being downvoted. And also rather than posted “replies” having a civil conversation about the issue, there will be you are an “asshole” comments

  • Reddit has enshitified and has almost no value. When they implement iris scanning as a requirement for an account, that will be the end and I imagine most people will move to lemy.

Reddit is run by fascist trump supporting goons.

  • I feel like it shouldn’t be very difficult to get along on Lemmy - assuming you’re not simping for fascism, for example.

Some very active niche communities never really took off on Reddit though. For example, the DECA game “Realm of the Mad God” - the subreddit didn’t particularly add to the community, you’d find more engagement on the game’s Discord. So maybe there’s a different platform more tuned to your niche interest.
