Let me give you my experience with your suggestion. Using reddit for over 10 years. Been through 3 site wide bans and 3 reinstatements all with the same account. During my last site wide ban I really tried to love Lemmy. I can understand less users and therefore less comments and posts. But in my opinion the vibe was worse than reddit. The vibe meaning the majority of us using this platform think THIS WAY and if you in anyway disagree than you are a bad person. I still like Lemmy but I restrict myself to just a handful of groups. In my opinion there are no civil open discussion groups on reddit. And it’s the same with Lemmy. The difference is that reddit has a flair policy for some groups that protects groups from the brigading just because you have a different opinion.

hey that really worked. Great link
If you are a group mod and ban someone from your group why would you give a fuck about a user continuing to use reddit. The other trend is asshole group mods going through a users history and banning them from their group because “they don’t like” the other groups that you have joined. They are total douchebags with empty lives
that is really incredible. I actually mod several groups there and have NEVER asked Admins to site wide ban anyone.

Reddit@lemmy.world•A jeweler friend of mine banned from /r/somethingimade because he recreate a ring found in a viking burial site with inscription "for allah" citing it promotes terrorism.
10 monthsLet’s say it’s less likely on Lemmy. And group bans seem to last for days instead of forever.

10 monthsI agree that it’s bullshit to ban someone from your group because they are subbed to a group that you don’t like. For subs that fear brigading by people that disagree with the intent of their group all they have to do is set up a "FLAIR’ policy. You ask the mod for flair. They do a quick check of your history and they allow you access.
In general if you invest just a bit of time on research you will unfortunately find that one political leaning much more than the other bans people simply because they belong to a group that they don’t like.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Counting Karma is dumb because it has many posting and commenting always worrying about karma nonsense and not just saying what they want
10 monthsAgreed on the time of day. My guess was always that older people went there after work and during the day it was mostly school age (college and high school) kids. Though I don’t know if that’s true
These 2 groups - r/NoStupidQuestions and r/AskReddit allow new accounts to post “comments”. New accounts with very low karma totals. If you try to post a comment (NOT A POST) there and you do not see it then you are shadow banned.

10 monthsTotally agree about banning at reddit. You have to be a complete uncivil clown to get permanently banned with Lemmy. At reddit if you stray just a bit outside the narrative there you are probably going to get a site wide permanent ban

10 monthsYes - you can’t reply to people with comments like “you fucking asshole” or even worse wishing them harm or even death. I think all social media platforms should have that rule. Geez it’s nameless people on the internet wasting time why get emotionally involved with an opinion you disagree with?

10 monthsYour point about going against the grain and being downvoted is a great point. Maybe reddit wouldn’t be so one sided if almost everyone wasn’t so concerned about karma points.

10 monthsThere are some subreddits that REQUIRE a specific Karma level to post or comment. So I understand that and I think that is bullshit. Imagine posting something relevant on reddit but you get massively downvoted so you run like a little baby and delete it because you have to protect your karma total. Best thing about Lemmy is no karma bullshit. I have some posts or comments (that of course don’t violate Lemmy rules) but that get lots of downvotes and I couldn’t care less.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Techrights — Reddit Deletes Stuff, But Not for Being False or Misleading
10 monthsthere is a long long auto moderator set that automatically removes stuff in posts or comments. Most individual subreddits align their auto mod exactly like the Reddit Admin’s automod set of exclusions. This protects the individual subreddit from the Admins banning their group.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit is now allowing advocacy of Child Marrige because they don't want to be seen as islamophobes
11 monthsSurprised at your comment. Just last month I read a review of all variations of milfs in the US. Top rated milfs were the Appalachian milfs. And it makes sense. They marry young and have kids when they are young. They have much less mileage on them compared to the overwhelming amount of milfs.

11 monthsReddit Admins ALL THE TIME, will remove posts and comments that the subreddit mods have allowed to post. And in some cases it may result in the ban of the poster and even of the group mod that approved it

11 monthsThe point being made is that reddit Admins have zero problem banning anything that does not fit their “narrative”. And that narrative has a hierarchy not based on basic morality and common sense. Ask yourself this question, even if there was a single post, would reddit Admins allow the promotion of child marriage by a Christian religious group that was mostly comprised of White people?

Interesting and makes sense

Previous post mentioned this. I never thought that with reddit some of the groups are just advertising scams. I also never knew that people could sell their accounts. What types of accounts do people actually buy? High karma totals? Or something else?

“Reporting” a post or comment will not remove it. Mods of the group get a notification of what has been reported and then decide whether or not to remove it.
Reddit’s over all auto mod along with a group’s specific auto mod may remove a post or comment. When this happens NO one but the mods of the group will see it, and therefore it cannot be reported.
Mods can NEVER see who is making the “report”. However if the same user is constantly “reporting” stuff the mods will have an option to IGNORE all reports from them for a month.
In the past reddit’s site wide auto mod was not as extensive as it is now. And during that time something could be reported, an Admin would look at it, and then possibly remove it and ban the poster site wide. Admins never ban a user from a specific subreddit. All their bans are site wide.
This is what it looks like when a comment is removed. One by reddit auto mod and one by a group’s auto mod
