In short:

The National Tertiary Education Union says two decorated academics were illegally sacked because of their advocacy and is taking legal action to have them reinstated.

Macquarie University denied the accusations “in the strongest possible terms”, saying its redundancy process was “rigorous and fair”.

What’s next?

The union said it was extremely rare for it to fund this kind of legal action.

In short:

Senior doctors at a Melbourne hospital are warning people not to take counterfeit weight-loss drugs labelled as “retatrutide” after seeing multiple cases of life-threatening illness.

Among them is a woman who found herself in acute liver failure within a week of her second dose of the drug, who has ongoing health issues six months later.

The US developers of the drug called retratrutide say it is still in a clinical testing phase, and that anyone purchasing products sold under its name is getting an untested and unregulated medication.

I had to look up the speech to check if this was an accurate representation or whether that ellipsis was doing a lot of work, and while it’s not verbatim, it’s very much close enough:

In the 2021 census, more than half of Australian residents, 51.5% were born overseas or had one parent born overseas.

51.5%.

Is that what supported by the Australian electorate? Is that what Australia wants?

In short:

Australian activists who claim they were sexually assaulted by Israeli forces met with federal ministers Penny Wong and Anne Aly as well as senior members of the Australian Federal Police.

Following that meeting, the AFP confirmed it had begun inquiries into the allegations.

What’s next?

The flotilla activists have called to also meet with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

It’s time for us to nominate our /c/rage’s Lemmyvision 3 song!

Over the past few weeks, our community has submitted nominations, and we have until 3rd May to pick a winner. Our Lemmyvision representatives @Gorgritch_umie_killa and @zero_gravitas have again delegated our election to an independent agency, the Aussie.zone Eureka Commission (AEC).

Anyone who has recently commented a few times on aussie.zone before today is allowed to vote. (This includes, for example, various Australians on other instances)

This election uses preferential Instant-Runoff Voting[wiki] just like our federal elections. Put simply, this means that if your [1] choice has no chance of election, your vote then moves over to your [2] choice, and so on.

Here are the entries. Please listen to them all before voting:

Here is the ballot template for you to fill in. Copy and paste it as a new reply to this post, and number ALL boxes from 1 to 10 in order of your choice. [1] is your preferred choice, [10] is your least preferred.
