    I just reported a question, not because of the content of the question but because the buttons were formatted strangely and clocking on them caused the question to refresh. It was about cassettes vs CDs.

    Other than that, this is pretty fucking legit. What a simple, fun, useful tool! And I mean simple as in “easy to explain,” not “easy to make.”

    ETA: I just got served either the same question twice (with a different question between each time), or found duplicate questions. If the same question twice, I’d be concerned about individuals skewing results. If a duplicate question is being submitted, it might be helpful (albeit slower) to run word matches against strings and then check the IP address of the submitter (if you record that) on anything with over 90% match and then let that user know they’ve already submitted this question.

    Just from the handful of OSs I’ve tried, I’d suggest Ubuntu desktop again.

    As for docker, I’d say to get docker and docker compose setup. Once you’re running in docker compose, adding machines is often as simple as editing some markup in a text editor.

    But my final suggestion is to crawl before you walk before you run. Start slow in the terminal. Instead of using your file explorer, navigate directories using the terminal and then open the directory you need into the file explorer using the terminal.

    Want a new file? Use touch. Want a new directory? Use mkdir. Eventually, it’ll become annoying to open a file from your explorer when you could just open it from the terminal. Then, you’ll get annoyed with text editors and want to reduce your context switches by using vim.

    Also, --help is your best friend when trying to figure out commands. You got this! Feel free to send me a message if you wanna chat and have any questions when you’re ready to start dipping your toes. I’m far from an expert, but I’ve made some progress of my own and eventually we might learn a thing or two together.

    I have a friend who was a project manager. He took the time to learn every platform used by his team, but held no pretenses that he could actually develop anything without the team. His main goal was filter all the horseshit from the stakeholders and higher-ups so that they wouldn’t overwhelm the team with minutia. By learning the platforms and observing the team developing, he could make accurate predictions on timeliness based on whatever arbitrary feature was being requested and he’d always answer “let me ask my team” before discussing deliverables if he wasn’t sure.

    The number of times that he explained in meetings that’s the team’s timeline didn’t change, but that the stakeholders’ expectations did and that introduced a new additional timeline was incredible. It’s unsurprising that he only lasted a year or two before his bosses started pushing for a promotion. Seeing him work made mean bit jealous that I couldn’t be on his team, but we work at different companies and I don’t want to join the private sector if I can be of benefit to public education.

    Also, you put that text in quotes, but I don’t see it anywhere in that page, which is very misleading to do.

    It’s literally stated within the summary of the page; third paragraph from the bottom.

    That’s contradicted by the link content.

    Try clicking the links within the content to see if maybe you’re missing some context.

    Michigan

    The name of the state is hyperlinked, click on it and you’ll find section of the Michigan Legislature contains statutory age limits on marriage. The site linked from my quote is out of date because the minimum age is now 18. This is an absolute win and something to be celebrated, it just sucks that it took until 2023 to bump the age up and remove a judge’s ability to enter a child into marriage. I considered editing my quote to cross out Michigan, but that seemed dishonest. Can’t really win either way, apparently.

    Mississippi

    Let’s click the name of this state and we end up at a summary page with a specific comment:

    Minors under minimum age may obtain license with parental consent and approval of court. Minor females age 15 yrs. and older and males 17 yrs. and older but under 21 may obtain license with parental consent and court order.

    But since we’re “doing our own research” (you’re welcome), let’s not trust the content on a third party site and instead look up the listed section of the Mississippi code dealing with conditions of issuing a marriage license in which we find that

    If the male applicant is under seventeen (17) years of age or the female is under fifteen (15) years of age, and satisfactory proof is furnished to the judge of any circuit, chancery or county court that sufficient reasons exist and that the parties desire to be married to each other and that the parents or other person in loco parentis of the person or persons so under age consent to the marriage, then the judge of any such court in the county where either of the parties resides may waive the minimum age requirement and by written instrument authorize the clerk of the court to issue the marriage license to the parties if they are otherwise qualified by law.

    Same info! They’re not lying! Wait… That’s bad news. Damnit!

    There appears to be an amendment that I can’t tell if it’s passed or not, but it only raises the minimum age of girls (15) to that of boys (17). I refuse to say “men” and “women” because 17 is still a child.

    Washington

    Great news! Two months ago, Washington passed a law eliminating marriage of minors! I genuinely had no clue about this one. Obviously, the site wouldn’t have this update, but there you have it.

    Anyway, there you have it. The info you could’ve read for yourself, but chose not to before declaring yourself a victim of misinformation.
