There are bots and astroturfers on Lemmy now to be clear, just not nearly to the point of the disaster that is R-town. That said, it’s not nearly as bad. The point i wanted to make is that federation is the one thing protecting Lemmy from corporate bot/shill takeover. The way Lemmy will be reddit’d/digg’d would be if centralization of servers became high enough that corpo corrupted ones become the defacto servers, who’d cut federation with the smaller privately-owned instances we currently enjoy.

But while you’ve eloquently pointed out the inherent flaw in the definitions we use in this discussion, i could use your same argument against you, reducing your argument to:

“I don’t like this meme”

Because memes, sayings, chants, etc exist to boil down a nuanced concept into a quick statement of belief, you could nitpick em, all of em all day, and while a little mental flaggelation is fun we’d have spent that day missing the point.

Yeah, the big short is even a movie! One positive i got from hanging around stonks, amc and gme subs was how much i learned about how fucked the stock market is.

Its weird not having my old RIF button front and center, but ive stopped reflexively tapping that spot on my phone, and haven’t been in over a month. It’s been a ride, Reddit was my home for a long time, but it’s over.

Fedi is rough by comparison but there’s enough marrow for me and i get to be a part of something when it was brand new this time. I didn’t get into Reddit until 2010 so i missed those early heady days.
