Sheer force of will.

The profile data and images were made public at okstupid.lol and it’s extremely clear that the site was for racists and straight up Nazis. There are a lot of profiles with pictures of Hitler, swastikas (the red, white and black kind) and neo-Nazi symbols and brands. Anybody denying that is an idiot and/or a Nazi trying to distract people.

I remember when r/ProgrammerHumor was full of hilariously bad UX/UI. There were so many amazing entries.

I heard about people using multiple used 3090s in a single motherboard for this. Apparently it delivers a lot of bang for the buck, as compared to a single card with loads of VRAM.

The mail I got makes it quite clear that you have to opt-in if you’re using a paid version:
Dear JetBrains AI user,
We are notifying you that on October 7, 2025, we will roll out an updated version of the JetBrains AI Terms of Service. The main change is in the data sharing clause. Previously we said we wouldn’t use your inputs, data, outputs, or suggestions to train AI models. This is still the case, unless you explicitly allow us to do so.
- For individuals using JetBrains IDEs with commercial licenses, free trials, free community licenses, or EAP builds who do not explicitly consent to the new data collection model – nothing changes.
- For companies that are unwilling or, for legal reasons, unable to opt in to the program – nothing changes either, and their admins remain in full control.
Important to note that the data sharing is OFF by default on all types of JetBrains IDEs licenses except for non-commercial tier until you change the settings explicitly.
For more details about the change, please read this blog post.
Other updates to the JetBrains AI Terms of Service reflect some recent changes to the JetBrains AI service. For example, JetBrains AI can now be used not only with JetBrains products, but also with selected third-party products. The service also includes a new feature that allows you to upload various content for indexing.
For the existing users, the updates will take effect on October 7, 2025. By using JetBrains AI after this date, you agree to the updated JetBrains AI Terms of Service.
Highlight by me. Personally, I don’t see a reason to be outraged. I’ve even used their AI products and they’re OK. They can take over dumb tasks or help me not having to look up documentation.

Well, that sounds good. But my god is that a complicated mess. It’s not working for me and I don’t have the will to deal with that crap anymore. Set up my own CouchDB, ran the init script, connection test is fine. But I can’t get the plugin to actually sync anything, it just keeps failing with “Failed to initialise the encryption key, preventing replication”. Whatever that means. It won’t explain which encryption key or what failed. I did not enable E2E encryption.

In general, yes. The main app works fine. But when I try to connect the notes app to my account, it just crashes and loops back.
Edit: Nevermind, I fixed it. Works fine now and looks to be exactly what I need. It was also trivial to import all my Trilium notes.

Well, OK, you got me to give that a try!

Why videos? I feel like an old man yelling at clouds every time something that sounds interesting is presented in a fucking video. Videos are so damn awful. They take time, I need audio and I can’t copy&paste. Why have they become the default for things that should’ve been a blog post?

I’m not mentally ill enough for that. 😛

That solution doesn’t exactly spark joy. Folder sync in general is, in my experience, too error prone. So I just stay away from it. Maybe I’ll need to finally give it another try.

I have a Nextcloud instance, which I don’t use much because the native apps are janky as fuck. I tried the notes app just now and it just won’t even let me connect to my account. That’s a level of bullshit I don’t have the energy to deal with. Which is sad, because it would be nice to use something I already have.
I am currently using Trilium for my notes. But I am constantly annoyed by the mobile experience. What I want:
sync across devices from a central server (this is why I went with Trilium, as having a web client means there’s always the same notes everywhere)
native Android app with local storage so that I don’t have to log in just for looking up a single note (this is what annoys me most about Trilium, plus the UX on mobile)
web version (for use on PC)
I only need very basic markup, markdown support is enough. I don’t worry about security, as I run everything inside my own VPN.
Is there something like this out there? I always see people raving about Obsidian, but sync seems to really suck there. Using some folder sync is a no go for me.
They someone needs to be punished, don’t they?
Domme and Sub?
I’d like to point out that this doesn’t just apply to programmers. Other people need to think and concentrate for their jobs too.
I don’t have high hopes for it to be actually useful. They already have Kotlin, which feels like a playground for language designers.
Nothing for me here. But I am still always happy when someone posts their little tools and scripts, because I have discovered some neat stuff that way over the years.
