All I’ve got is the tablet and the phone for work. Gosh either I’m an executive or not all workplaces and job types are alike.
I mod a worryingly growing list of communities. Ask away if you have any questions or issues with any of the communities.
I also run the hobby and nerd interest website scratch-that.org.

Privating protests definitely had some teeth in the short term, but not in the long term
Toothless.
Not like the privating protests ever had much in the way of teeth anyway. The overwhelming majority of mods weren’t willing to actually leave, so it was just puffery. Any mod who was on reddit during the API protests and is still there has proven they will cave to whatever rules reddit throws at them.
Change your goal from hurting the bad corporations to supporting the individual creators and good companies.
It is a more sustainable mindset.
How could mods ban all the bots posing as human users?
Took my freshly re-cobbled together computer to local computer guy after an upgrade with hand-me-down parts. He asked what was wrong and I said there was an alarm for the CPU fan, and that I’d torn the case open and hooked a second fan into the CPU fan connection and it also didn’t work, and the I plugged the CPU fan into a different connection and got it working, so by elimination I was pretty sure the fans were good and the connection in the motherboard was bad.
He seemed mildly amused/impressed by my spiel. I’m not really a computer person, but swapping out parts to narrow down the source of the problem seemed logically basic.
I ended up chilling with him while he worked on things. He found WinZip on my desktop and let out a “whoa retro.” which hurt me deeply.
Also complaints that lack specificity must be aggravatingly common. I once complained on an open board about a bug in Wasteland 3 and a dev reading comments actually PM’d me asking for details. I provided details as best I could, including screenshots- the very next patch included a fix for my niche issue. But I imagine most bug reports being “GAME BROKEn! SUX! Fix NOW character creation BROKENN!”

2 yearsI’m more of a doors person, myself.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit redesign is getting forced onto users without an opt-out option
2 yearsI do believe that was an early mistake made throughout the platform.
Since it is functionally unreversible, my personal solution has been to try and make networks of these communities by encouraging sidebars to reference each other, share mods, and partake in cross posting.

2 yearsChicken and the egg. Nobody is posting or commenting because nobody is posting or commenting.
I’ve decided to ignore waiting for others to post and just post. Some communities I’ve done this in are still voids. Others have actually come to life somewhat. Still slow, but at least other people are now consistently engaging.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit redesign is getting forced onto users without an opt-out option
2 yearsAny time Reddit makes a stumble is likely to generate at least a small exodus looking for alternatives. This is an example of such a moment.
In order to keep those users on Lemmy it needs to have activity. A community with no posts or only ancient posts is not attractive. Yes, Lemmy has politics and memes, but it needs more activity in other types of communities. People say as much constantly and it is obvious.
If you want Lemmy to thrive then I highly suggest you post in communities relevant to your interests.

2 yearsThe hurdle is content. Lemmy has an overflow of politics and mindless memes, but it needs to have more content beyond that to attract people in.
Everyone who wants Lemmy to succeed should give redditors a reason to stay by posting in some of the smaller and more niche communities.
I sincerely hope so, many hobby and interest communities absolutely need more active members to achieve stable activity.

Reddit@lemmy.world•It's time to admit Lemmy has won the "the biggest reddit alternative" award, why it's time for all of us to consider supporting it (here's why) + reopening r/LemmyMigration
2 yearsI don’t know what discussions sports people are into honestly. You know better than me. I assume aside from game news (which if nobody else is posting games, that is a no brainer), there is talk about players, training, trades, strategies, and I don’t know if like stories about the fandom are a thing. What are the kinds of discussions you liked on Reddit? Bring the best of that.

2 yearsHa wow, you weren’t kidding.
Some of those comment chains have real “drinking the verification can isn’t that bad” vibes.
Reading through some of the complaints, I suspect part of the problem some users are having is that they want to be toxic and argumentative, so jumped into the most toxic and argumentative parts of lemmy and then bounced off because their specific flavor toxicity was outnumbered.

2 yearsSome of it absolutely is from the frontpage, but I consider that a reason communities need more posts. Posts from a niche community actually have a chance at wider visibility. People who interact with the posts are more likely to be the kind of people who would like the community I figure.
