Programmer Humor@programming.dev•My new static, multi-page calendar application
4 monthsIf you have tabs for each month, it could be O(1) since it requires only one flip.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•If you have one, how much do you pay for a domain name? Any cheap registrar recommendations?English
5 monthsFree dns and everything it’s been great. Cheap domains and even the 404 page is cute

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•All money probably went into NVIDIA GPUs
5 monthsI love open source but I feel like it’s hard to get donations. So by making code gpl, I can only hope that the company using my code will at least make it open source.
Yes and no, I don’t want to deal with people too much. But I’m in help desk so it’s only half true

Linux@programming.dev•Linux players on Steam hit an all-time high for November 2025
7 monthsWe’re a big bubble of linux users. I brought up Android update enabling use of graphical linux programs, and my coworker (in IT) said “why are you so obsessed with Linux”
I’m currently at the 1 year mark of my IT internship, idk when I should leave. Should I stick with it for another year while I’m still in school and then jump after I graduate? Should I get a new job and jump this summer? So many options

Linux@programming.dev•Have you or someone close to you converted to Linux recently (with Windows 10's end of support)?
8 monthsYes I have 1 convert and 1 on the edge. The convert said Windows is behind and wanted to use Linux. Probably to be cool and stuff. He’s learning the ropes of Arch on Cachyos for now

Ah I see, thanks for that. I’ve been using syu because I didn’t see a difference between than and syyu
- 8 months
They suggested, and strongly defended, using sudo pacman -Syyu
Wait I’m not supposed to run that?

Pretty much everybody I know who have used manjaro, say it fucked up their computer because of an update.
In general, it has update problems

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•The AWS outage hit us during the day in Australia. I didn't notice because I run my own server, btwEnglish
8 monthsYeah I’ve been tryna find a way to do that but last time I did it I fucked up the openwrt settings and screwed some dns things with my devices.

8 monthsYeah my dad is a normie tech enthusiast who wants everything connected to the internet. I’m looking for a way to isolate the devices but I’m having some trouble

Scared because it’s centralized. If Amazon decides that it wants to shut Signal down, they can. Nobody can spin up a Signal instance and help out.

My friend messaged me on Signal asking if Instructure (runs on AWS) was down. I got the message. That being said, it’s scary that Signal’s backbone depends on AWS
Aws seems out on down detector
