I generally blame the instructors when that happens. I’ve taken classes on the most menial subjects that were great because the instructor was great. Almost anything can be enjoyable to learn if you have the right teacher.

Check out GetSimple. It’s a flat file system (so no database to mess with) and can run with just basic PHP (though it’ll guide you through installing modules if you want fancy urls, etc). Super easy to set up. I’ve been using it for years without a hitch.

I usually move static assignments outside the DHCP range, but in general, most routers will avoid re-allocating it even if it’s within the DHCP range.

We don’t need more than basic math in programming–anything else is application-specific.

Programming requires logic and reasoning, which is a common foundation for other areas (such as math and philosophy). But we often lump “logic” together with math, which is probably why people assume math is central to programming.

Programming is also a very broad field (when someone says “I’m a programmer,” it’s like saying “I play sports”). Some fields (like embedded software) require more math than others.

Oh, there’s a storm alright

Bootloader stuff is less important if you’re not dual booting. Windows has a tendency to attempt to rewrite the bootloader when it updates.

But if you’re interested, it never hurts to learn about your BL!

If you still need both, it’s an okay option, though it can be a little challenging to set up and maintain if you’re not as tech savvy. But in that case, to address the original question: learning how to restore your bootloader would be helpful.

But if running Windows in a VM works for what you need, that’s an option too (that’s what I do).

Or if you want to play around with Linux before committing, running it from a USB drive is also fine.

Yeah, the base repositories are the same (along with Debian). In addition, Ubuntu gives access to the snap store, while Mint uses a flatpak repo. It won’t mean a lot to everyone–the main distinction between the distros is the default DE.

Mint uses flatpaks instead of snaps.
