  • If doing it makes you feel better, that’s all the point you need. Yes, it may be a useless waste of time, but that’s secondary. If it’s something you want to do, don’t let the possibility of backups stop you.

  • It’s so much better (and easier, once you get used to it) to just give people the benefit of the doubt.

    I think I read somewhere that Lemmy users are, on average, a bit older than Reddit users. To me, that just means that we’re more likely to have seen the worst that the web has to offer, and don’t want to reproduce it. Of course, we can still be trolls and idiots; it’s just less prevalent.

  • Alternate viewpoint: Whatever was good about reddit died long ago anyway. Whatever’s left is just a useless cash-grab cesspool. I’m perfectly fine with letting it simultaneously decay and cannibalize itself. Watching it play out is funny.
