Investing in Reddit is a mistake second only to using Reddit.

I usually chalked it up to immaturity, an inferiority complex, and/or anger at the world. All toxic and useless.

It’s so much better (and easier, once you get used to it) to just give people the benefit of the doubt.

I think I read somewhere that Lemmy users are, on average, a bit older than Reddit users. To me, that just means that we’re more likely to have seen the worst that the web has to offer, and don’t want to reproduce it. Of course, we can still be trolls and idiots; it’s just less prevalent.

I didn’t realize how bad Reddit had gotten until I tried Lemmy. It got toxic slowly enough that it snuck up on me. I’ll never go back.

Alternate viewpoint: Whatever was good about reddit died long ago anyway. Whatever’s left is just a useless cash-grab cesspool. I’m perfectly fine with letting it simultaneously decay and cannibalize itself. Watching it play out is funny.

It’s news because children don’t know any better. A lot of the time, kids are naturally trusting, and they’re being taken advantage of. Adults are the ones who need to act.
