Why broadcast this on a community dedicated to bitching about reddit of all places? Seems like a cry for help. You won’t find it on social media, unfortunately. Find a therapist.

You are, I guess, an introvert. I am too. That doesn’t mean you should rule out making friends with people. It just means you have a lower threshold for how much socialization works for you. If you can, find a therapist, and I don’t mean this in a condescending way at all. It sounds like you have some kind of chip on your shoulder preventing you from attaining something that we as humans emotionally need - which is connection.

I like how our society places so much responsibility on private companies to manage communities, really what could go wrong. Just institutionally protected employees that are nothing more than power tripping Reddit mods because Reddit hired a decent amount of them and put them in high positions, solidifying the toxic moderator culture they already had.

I’ve seen the admins go on really petty vendettas against people for just mentioning them in threads, shadow banning them for the dumbest reasons. Just know your ban doesn’t mean you failed in any way, this company is just morally bankrupt, as are many other companies like it in several industries.

While there’s certainly a lack of content (and by extension diverse voices) compared to Reddit here, there’s definitely less corporate manipulation. It’s a nice palate cleanser of that gross astroturfing fiefdom.

These were my old accounts, they are forcing a password change, probably in hopes of me clicking their referral links and self-identifying my current IP with my old accounts. Shady behavior in any case.

My current Reddit account I carefully curated and built is unbanned but associated to a different email, but my primary email is actually receiving new emails as of this week that my old accounts are permabanned. That alone is not noteworthy, but over the past couple months some of my other alts have had their passwords reset at random, with emails asking me to verify. These are not phishing emails, but actually from Reddit. I think they’re on to me and trying to get a confirmation, but not clicking those links so they can do their IP identification. Sociopathic, vindictive, people run Reddit apparently. Like sorry for dissenting and calling out specific employees that have bullied me, your operation is surely not corrupt. /s

Reddit isn’t worth it as it’s now run by fascists, but if you really have to, the best way to create an account is to just use a new IP. This could just be your phone with wifi disabled. Most carriers use ipv6 now, they’re not going to be able to track the rotating IPs your phone carrier assigns. Create the account with a browser you haven’t used Reddit with before and let it sit for a few months. Then use it carefully. Really, not defending the gatekeeping and if anything condemning it, but just telling you how to work around it.

Those snoo avatars for the execs look like the most soulless looking art styles possible, sort of like how Chuck E Cheese got rebranded. Pretty gross.

I was building a Reddit clone a long time ago and this man has followed my Github profile for the last 10 years. Of course that was a different era. That’s my anecdote though, I think underneath all of these silicon bros is a spoiled nerdy interior that sold out. Kind of sad.

A lot of people profile him as just a weird nerd and treat him like a digital punching bag, but I think it’s a mistake to underestimate a censorship extremist who built an empire on unpaid labor. Ironically, the loudest “fuck this guy” comments often help him, because they reinforce the idea that opposition is just angry noise, not serious critique. That plays better in mainstream media than you’d think.

At least have some dignity and be grounded in the reality of where this company is aligned politically. Reddit doesn’t care about you or anything other than emulating everything Elon Musk does.

This system is so easily gamed by report spam. I’ve gotten multiple warnings on my account for “violence” removed after appealing, their system is automating this somehow and it’s not doing a good job. Really that’s just the story of Reddit for the past several years, they cast a wide net and piss off a lot of people now. They used to be a lot more hands-off but now they’re just controlling fuckwits.

When they IP banned me, I just turned off wifi on my phone and created a new account with a separate browser. But looking back reddit was never worth it. We’re all very addicted to this toxic form of crowd sourced moderated information. I’m not really convinced Lemmy is better on a design level, the upvote system is identical and doesn’t prevent echo chambers. I guess there’s autonomy with instances, so that’s nice…

Once you understand how reddit admins are basically mods themselves it kind of makes sense. The company has hired lots of power mods over the years that don’t “respect the human”. And the forces that be want to continue profiting from volunteer mods’ free labor. It says a lot more about the individual reddit admins that they make the lazy decisions they do.

That’s part of the enshittification rug pull, they take over as the hub of forums for most of the internet and then gatekeep as a power play.

Could be related to them going public - people are scrutinizing their operations a bit more. Same reason the view count for subreddits suddenly went down by a factor of 10 post-IPO. They always have been, and always will be corrupt.

But really, they’ve banned me in very insulting ways. I only keep an account around in case I really need to engage with a niche hobby subreddit, and it’s barely ever used. This company should understand what the consequences of burning bridges with a user base is.
