I started with gitea but found it difficult to backup. I’ve been using gogs for a while now and find it minimal and easy to administrate.

I just sync a folder with syncthing and use native markdown editors.

On a desktop I like zettlr. On android I like zettel notes. Both have zettelkasten features which is pretty much just a way to link to other files.

I was actually looking at these on amazon but I mistakenly thought that the term “temperature controlled” included in the product name was just SEO bullshit, referring to the mobo controlling the temperature.

I did see that thermostat pwm board on amazon. When you say a “standard 12v power adapter” do you mean as in… like a transformer plug with 12v output and the right amperage?

When clients are on the same platform that I use internally everything just matches up and it’s beautiful and elegant and amazing.

When clients are using something else it just doesn’t fit our workflows and it’s just more of a fuck around, which of course the client gets charged for.

You’re right in that it will never be like it was, but there are still fringes and niche communities that have that human feel. The thing is they’re much less engaging without algorithms and UX driving engagement, we’re not drawn to them in the same way.

I don’t necessarily agree that a paid / qualified person will necessarily be operating at a higher level just generally than a hobbyist. Professionals tend to know lots about very specific things, hobbyists tend to invest a lot more time and effort into building elegant solutions.

Yes some answers from IT professionals may be unhelpful for hobbyists but that’s just part of interacting with other people.

I wish everyone could embrace the idea that different communities will be found in different places.

You don’t need all your things to be on Lemmy.

There might be a nice niche community on reddit, or some likeminded souls in a discord channel, cool memes on an old school forum, or a group of friends in a signal group, or god forbid - a place to sell old junk on facebook.

I recently found a community of bike repair enthusiasts in XMPP chat which has been invaluable.

Honestly, are we all really that lazy that we can’t bear to open a new tab and switch to whatever other platform? The idea of having to be “on lemmy” and not on reddit is very 2023.

I would very much like to seek out a vibrant variety of different communities wherever they may be.
