So did we make it to “codebase drag” yet?
Something that isn’t debt but is a headwind to making changes.

I see that as too idealist. When the rubber hits the road you cant spoon feed every newcomer with 100x docs per 1x code, so it’s inevitably going to be difficult for some to approach.
So now cos it’s hard for somebody you assume there is debt?.. It can’t be infinitely easy.

Whilst true, I was not talking about maintenance…
Rather “getting started in” ie onboarding.

Not sure. Something can be written fine and technically good but it’s difficult to get started in… Its a headwind… Ie drag.
I don’t see that as debt?

In your CI which one do you use? I also use SOPS for my own, but it’s overhead… So wondering which you settled on?
Can be trained and not a gift, agree.
But just cos you got experience does not mean you got “it”.

Lot of complaining for issues that are easily side stepped, but maybe cos I’ve learnt it all already, but it does fill the article with lots of words.
The byo compute and logs thing is half the rant which has never even been a problem for me in the last 4 years on GH.
Not sure between config and programming? You literally can choose that yourself.
Biggest issue for CI for me is how to get CI secrets locally… which I don’t know a good answer for.
Nix is great but try getting your whole team / org on it…

What’s your solution to handle secrets locally?

Linux@programming.dev•What Are Btrfs Subvolumes? And Why They’re Better Than Traditional Linux Partitions
3 monthsI wanted btrfs for ages for snapshots… Then I moved to nixos with Declarative config… Then I needed to move partitions to extend my drive into old root, decided to move to btrfs from ext4 cos why not at the time… Only afterwards do I realize snapshots aren’t that helpful when you’re on nixos… Or am I missing something?
still there on Thinkpads

Just quit and you’re back where you started.

The remote advertising thing sure that’s poor but what else is shitty exactly? Not changing a contract?
You can be idealist and complain, that’s good, but might just need to wait a while to find what you want.
I mean take it and see if they do it, and if they do just quit, what’s the difference.

You’re fair to ask but its also fine for them not to change. You could trust them and see if they hold their word that they’re not enforced. TBH those things just sound like legalese to protect their ass.
Just like you won’t perfectly hold your end of the contract, they won’t enforce theirs.

Did you ask them about those parts before complaining on internet? What did they say?
