I have to say, the initial reports puzzled me. This begins to make more sense, that someone who doesn’t like site mirroring has been attempting to get the site taken offline.
My guess is that it’s not about CSAM (that was used as the leverage) and it’s probably not about paywalls either.
Most likely, someone wanted to get some unflattering but true information about them removed from the Internet without drawing any attention to it with a RTBF request.

Unlike the NYSE, the LSE actually has to deal with forced labour laws with teeth. Actual people at Shein and the LSE could face fines and imprisonment if it turns out they are intentionally using forced labour and the firm is listed. Career ending type of stuff.

Already seen it multiple times in Africa. First thing China does is sets up a local Chinese enclave to run the port. The enclave has its own security. If the victim nation tries to do anything about it, the port shuts down until they relent. If they try to take the port by force, it gets seized and held by the security forces, and may refuse to do any local shipping until the nation caves.
Does anyone actually see Russia joining? The only belt and road candidate I can imagine from BRICS is South Africa.
However. There’s quite a few second-tier BRICS hangers on (Indonesia, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, Sudan, etc) that I can imagine could be quite excited about belt and road, at least in the short term.

Just remember that there’s a difference between good,truthful information from untrusted sources and mostly truthful information designed to deceive or misdirect.
I see enough “news” presented inaccurately from “trusted” sources to take all reporting with a grain of salt, but also find value in reading reports from varying viewpoints to try and identify the actual established facts.
I guess it is in the “…and abetting” sense of the term….
This is a useful read irrespective of the climate angle; it could apply to any topic in a news room, and identifies how much the organizational structure will affect which journalism is effective.

I don’t think that old plan would work today. Take severing undersea cables. Some of the major Pacific undersea cables terminate in Vancouver, serving the entire Pacific Northwest. Severing them seriously degrades communications throughout northwestern US while not disconnecting Vancouver from the rest of Canada, or the world at large.
Not to mention: how exactly would the military hold these strategic cities? The majority of important/export from the port cities is already to the US. If they tried something like this, Canadians would just go on a general strike and the US would be severely impacted.
That’s assuming of course that NATO ignored the situation and China didn’t take the opportunity to invade Taiwan and Japan.
