I have a monstrous satellite l300 i use for light spec work and arduino programming. 17" screen. It does not feel claustrophobic in the slightest, unlike my latest gen dell work machine with a screen smaller than my first fucking 486 i need glasses to even see. where did we go so wrong.

Same way the rest of the OS is built.
All those fucked up snapins and apps and pretty pretty nonfunctional interfaces (try changing an ip) are utterly negated by start-run-“control”

Linux@programming.dev•Is Ubuntu Treating Its Users as If They Can’t Be Trusted?English
4 monthsThis is not true in any way shape or form.
User roles and controls are baked into linux and have been since its inception
Also RHEL has been The Corporate Linux for decades

Nah for a single vm i just use the ol’ pro key.
Fun fact: it will still validate on m$ servers

A lot of pieces of medical and industrial hardware have their controlling software written in VB and if you’re lucky it’s VB6…(and usually heavily dependent on openGL libraries)
Banking? That’s all COBOL and BASIC.

Legit, at my current workplace one of the first things i did was update the very neglected hardware.
The IDRAC on the core server was so old i had to spin up an xp vm just to get a browser that would accept it so i could upgrade.

96% through recovering an attached 20tb RAID and windows update decides i should go fuck myself.
And that is why it’s only on my work laptop. And only because i’m forced at gunpoint

Windows treats user commands like most tech treats consent. Negotiable, ignorable.
Linux brooks no bullshit. The program will do as it is told.

Throtting and port blocking is for housemates who pissed you off, not nephews.
It auto-inserts 192.168.0.12 because that’s the IP address of your NAS, and you’ve logged into it to adjust something at some point in the last six months. You register it has done this as you’re releasing the Enter key.
I avoid this by having my router interface on 1) a double digit IP. And 2) a non-standard port
I mean fuck me, i can build an entire bespoke DDU from bare metal to cool down in less time than that.

Pretty farken standard. IT isn’t considered important unless they want their personal laptop de-porned

Then why are you here?
