Not huge. I have a bluetti AC200L and 1000 watts of mismatched panels. It’s plugged into the wall socket and switche to grid power at 40% of capacity.

Router and modem plus NAS average a continuous 70 watt draw. The fridge is the biggest draw as it turns on regularly and uses about 80 watts, and runs a defrost cycle for 40 minutes at 300 watts.

None of it will matter. That said, short term FUBAR can be mitigated. I have a semi-portable solar setup that currently runs my internet, NAS, Fridge and to some degree, the A/C.

To prep for the serious mess, I have to get Faraday bags for my server, drives, and solar generator and have enough time to bag everything before the EMP hits.

I have survival guides in book form as well as on the NAS, and I work the land enough to bring the soil into balance and build its fertility, plus feed the bees so they’ll be there when I need them.

This is the way.

Use AI, learn the methods, tools, uses. Then keep working through the process yourself like you do now with AI as a partner who sometimes flakes out.

Remind yourself of the tenents of critical thinking regularly. Never just accept what AI tells you. seek proof behind the answers. Think through those answers to ensure you understand the logic behind them.

Fight complacency.

By then, careers are obliterated.

There are ways to protect your mind in the meantime.

This is the first time I heard of it, so I’m going to read up. I set up openvpn on my NAS, ensured only the one port is open, and connect to the vpn when I need to access my local network.

Inside, I configured a DAVX volume and use DAVx5 on the phone for file transfer. The vpn uses a certificate and pwd for auth.

I have KDE Connect as well.

You might be able to get AI to generate mermaid if you can get it to scan your topology.

I had success using openVPN. I set it up, generated certificates, installed it on my phones, tablets, and laptops.

It won’t work when using an external vpn like Express or Mulvad, but while using it, you have secure connection to home. Once done with the home network, turn off the vpn, turn on your commercial vpn.

By “homelab”, do you mean your local network? I tend to use shared folders, kdeconnect, or WebDAV.

I like WebDAV, which i can activate on Android with DavX5 and Material Files, and i use it for Joplin.

Nice thing about this setup is that i also have a certificate secured OpenVPN, so in a pinch i can access it all remotely when necessary by activating that vpn, then disconnecting.

I don’t knowvwhat mtls is, but Joplin has mostvof what you want. It does not have card layout native, but there might be a plugin for that.

I sidestepped all this crap by buying Synology in 2014 and upgrading 2 years ago. Sure, it isn’t FOSS, but it is very nearly plug and play.

I configured OpenVPN for when I want to use it remotely, and self host my music, video, and family photos.

Having the 4 drive RAID-6 gives me some security from the danger of losing data between backups.

I store all my scanned documents, ocr’d, and keep the paper under control.

The problem with that, is that you now have to maintain virtual infrastructure in many different syntaxes. And features of one do not exist in another.

Plus things like cash and session do not cross those boundaries.

More accurately, it’s someone else’s network of pluggable computers. “The cloud” is just a convenient metaphor for “it’s up there,where someome else keeps it working”.

The point is to free up resources in individual companies that would otherwise be used maintaining the infrastructure.

In a lot of companies that translates to having fewer employees to pay. Enlightened companies keep those people and allocate them to other, profitable, activities.

A wonderful and Powerful effect of vitualization is the idea of declarative infrastructure. Individual companies can allocate those Cloud resources in specialized ways. It’s primary value is in economies of scale.

Absolutely. My only serious problem with it comes when an individual’s only option is to use someone else’s infrastructure.

The issues you describe are primarily business issues. Individuals generally don’t have to worry about that stuff. If the software requires using a host, then it should be able to run on a host we can set up on our own hardware.

Virtualization is wonderful, and powerful. But it can also be weaponized.

KDE Connect utilizes SSHFS in order to securely and wirelessly mount your Android device’s file system to your computers. You will be able to browse all of the files on your device via your preferred file manager whether that be Dolphin, Nemo, Nautilus, Thunar, etc.

It’s gimped for me because it insists on using an insecure sftp algorithm, so I cannot use the file system browser to transfer files to/from my Android 13 devices. It probably can’t access the root anyway. I want to use it for backing up my device files, especially the Android folder.

Everything else seems to work though.
