5 monthsPeople who sign these things know full well what they are doing
FYI: tl;Dr version: there is a very good reason why System administration and integration is a 3 year long education, and trust me, from what I’ve seen you don’t meet that criteria.
FYI: Long version. (Btw, I'm not working in the field, but I'm planning to, so please correct any misconceptions)
The GDPR Exists, data protection laws exist, and it is your duty to inform other of what you are doing with that info, not the users. Premade docker images are shit for security, they are almost every time based on an old Version and such are vulnerable to Hacks like the SQL CVE just some Weeks ago. Your data will get leaked, your users data will get leaked, and you will be liable to all damage. If you want an alternative to the usual petition sites, you will also need to implement a working bot protection, trolls, etc, of which cloudflare or other CDNs will only do a fraction of. Your homelab needs to have a good uptime, regular sec updates, and competent security. Your own network will get ddosed as a result of the traffic, if you don’t have a good network plan. All of those are just a few things you have to think about when publishing to the internet, and which you apparently just don’t have the knowledge to do.

5 monthsThat is not how petitions work.
If anything, you need to know the Form for your specific country through which you can actually submit the Petition, for example in the EU its their official site
Going on about EU, you also need their passport info and such in order to be a verifiable vote, and for that you will need a gdpr compliant Server, which you will probably not manage to do without at least 10k in Audits alone

Linux@programming.dev•Installing Linux on friend's new PC, which distro should he use?
6 monthsIf you don’t decide to even parse my answers, there is no good reason to argue further.
I have shown, that Ubuntu has done practices that go beyond subscriptions for extra Support, instead risking free users security. They have added Amazon ass once. They broke big parts of the os and made debugging harder by forcing a proprietary snap format, going against the decisions of users.

Linux@programming.dev•Installing Linux on friend's new PC, which distro should he use?
6 monthsUbuntu is a simple install
So is about every os by now. Ubuntu was special back in 2010 maybe. Now, no anaconda installer is the exception if you wannabe the arch btw guy, not the rule
What is the exception by now, is breaking your entire OS with a rust rewrite, forcing a propriatery package format even when the user requests the normal package from the package installer, hiding security updates behind a subscription (even if its just your email), and putting Amazon ads in the OS
When 90% of even niche Linux distros like Rhino, Vanilla or mint or Endeavour or Cachy or even fucking Artix have the same experience as Ubuntu, I’d rather recommend someone an Os that hasn’t shown it would go the Microsoft way if it had the opportunity to

So why Ubuntu then?

Linux@programming.dev•After 5 years, I’m finally leaving Ubuntu for this Linux distro
8 monthsI love Fedora atomic, really do, but it youre a power user and need docker regularly, you cant go around doing some Atomic bullshit, which in turn breaks stuff (for me it was sddm)
But for stuff like a media center, its godly
But still, all of it implies you can get Linux on that thing in the first place, which is (especially with fake specs) very hard to guess
Sure, if someone puts in the time to sort those, great
But even at 5$ a piece, and if 1/5 work decently with Linux, you are looking at like 45$ / working piece, or even more if someone is refurbing it
For comparison: I can buy a lot of x64 (kinda nice, since arm is not as supported everywhere) thin client with way more ports, changeable memory and everything, for 30$
https://www.ebay.de/itm/306411387131?keyword=fujitsu+thin+client&relatedSearch=true
Tl:;Dr: sort of
The guy mentioned here got really lucky
the android TV had a standartised rockchip SoC which had a port for Debian, and booting externally was really easy
That’s the 1/100 chance. Even when, what are you going to do with 8 gig of rom and 1 gig ram?
you do not want to fiddle with settings or command lines
Kinda the reverse for me
I need to fiddle with Massgrave and various debloat scripts to run win
Your applications/games only work well on native Windows
Windows for docker, winboat, etc
serious group policy support or other device/software lockdown methods
I would argue sudo and normal file permissions do the same
Makes helping Windows users harder
???
That is the interface for LSW AKa. Windows for docker

Nicotine is Bad for children.
Its almost like this has been proved like 100 Years ago already with cigarettes
Yet for some reason, everyone is acting like anyone on gods green earth has ever said that it would be healthy.
Since I had some contact with kids who are Smoking/Vaping, I can anecdotally say that they never do it because they like the taste. Most of the time its because they are fucked up in some other way, like having mental conditions or a worse-than-good family
And even if Vapes wouldnt exist, they would just get cigarettes, sometimes even from their parents
But who am I to draw a conclusion after all, especially since I know that they tobacco industry is extremely rich, and I dont want to close off any options, especially if it involves green 174x77mm rectangles with Art in the barock androkoko architectural style
- Opensuse, or Fedora/Bazzite.
- Steam for steam, Heroic for the Rest.
- Gimp/Krita
- Spotify, discord, etc is just a Web app, but I recommend Freetube
- Mullvad as VPN.

If you didn’t have the portals, you could just play halo, which I’m doing now
About 1, it was always really fun having 2 ends of the maps as bases and just trying to hold it while trying to portal to the other. At least that’s what I remember. The weapons were also fun (which I can’t say about every weapon except from the fortitude class, since 1 aero’s feels like a paint gun damage wise and the energy gun is an SMG, if someone took it and just completely ruined it for CQC by making the projectiles have the travel time of a sniper firing at 1km.), and the gameplay itself was way less ability centred.
Also, making the lore of a game „Its esports” is just so generic. Sure, turn it into a Gulag people are thrown into by the rich. Turn one company into the bad guy if you want. But not this shit
- Luffy@lemmy.mltoGaming@beehaw.org•Splitgate 2 Director Refuses to Apologize for ‘Make FPS Great Again Hat’, Then Apologizes Anyway - IGN1 year
Its not very good
I mean, abilities? OK, why not.
Different classes? Well, ok I guess?
But like, I can’t get into a match where anyone is using portals. In the only arena from SG 1 you can actually See some intent in being Portal oriented, but in all New areas they just dont make sense to usw. The Objectives are placed completely Outside of any Portal areas, and even where they are placed its just like „If you run to the other side of the Map and back, you can flank some random angle no one will ever use
And why make every classes weapon different?
Also, power weapons are just not worth picking up, every 2. Player is a bot, and the game itself feels pretty soulless with this corporate arena vibe that the finals have done better already.

mainly for the integrated graphics to use jellyfin’s hardware transcoding. Is the UHD 730 enough for that?)
My 4th gen Intel i5 can do that
No idea what to get for MB
You get the cheapest thing available with your socket that has at least 4 sata slots for migration
Server quality storage is extremely expensive, not sure if its worth buying.
Just get 2 WD blues
For case I saw some suggestion for cases with a ton of hotswappable drive bays
Or, you know, if you are making a whole post crying about your financial situation, maybe you can just move your ass and manually swap the HDDs.
PSU I want to get any gold PSU with low wattage from a reputable brand
If you want something energy efficient, why in gods name do you want to buy a desktop CPU?
16gb of any decent ram I suppose?
If you want to be fancy I guess, but my 25€ half dead optiplex that dosent even pass its own self test is currently running on 8 gigs of DDR 3 storage from different brands I got out of dumpsterdiving in a junkyard right before they threataned to call the police on me, and I live in goddamn Germany, so maybe make up your mind if you want to be crying about being poor or actively going out of your way to buy fancy Server Equipment I can only dream about in my setup.

Education is a very broad term.
