They just did a video through FUTO where they go over all “missing” features and why they haven’t or aren’t implementing them. Almost from the start they essentially said that if it’s still missing by now, there’s a reason why, and they mostly have everything they wanted to build into immich already on immich. I would imagine a feature complete project would be in more of a maintenance phase, and maintenance being slow during the holidays sounds… Pretty normal to me.

Zfs is a low level system meant for pcie or sata, not USB, which is many layers above sata & pcie. Rsync was the right choice for this scenario since it’s a higher level program which doesn’t care about anything other than just the data and will work over USB, Ethernet, wifi, etc., but you gotta understand why it was the right choice instead of just throwing shade at one of the most robust filesystems out there just because it wasn’t designed for your specific usecase.

I host a Plex server for close to 70 friends and family members, from multiple parts of the world. I have over 60TBs of movies, tv shows, anime, anime movies, and flac music, and everyone can connect directly to my server via my reverse proxy and my public IPs. This works on their phones, their tvs, their tablets and PCs. I have people of all ages using my server, from very young kids to very old grandparents of friends. I have friends who share their accounts with their families, meaning I probably have already hit 100+ people using my server. Everyone is able to request whatever they want through overseerr with their Plex account, and everything shows up pretty instantly as soon as it is found and downloaded. It works almost flawlessly, whether locally or remotely, from anywhere in the world. I myself don’t even reside in the same home that my Plex server resides. I paid for my lifetime pass over 10 years ago.

Can you guarantee that I can move over to jellyfin and that every single person currently using my Plex server will continue having the same level of experience and quality of life that they’re having with my Plex server currently? Because if you can’t, you just answered your own question. Sometimes we self host things for ourselves and we can deal with some pains, but sometimes we require something that works for more people than just us, and that’s when we have to make compromises. Plex is not perfect, and is actively becoming enshittified, but I can’t simply dump it and replace it with something very much meant for local or single person use rather than actively serving tens to hundreds of people off a server built with OTC components.

My dude, I understand your unwillingness, but docker is just a fancy new way of saying “install apps without it being a major PITA”. You just find the app you want on docker hub or some other docker repo, you pull the image, you run it, et voila, you have a container. No worrying about python suddenly breaking, or about running 5 commands in a row to spin up an app (I used to do this, including the whole python rain dance, to run home assistant. I feel stupid now).

It’s step by step, all you have to do is get docker installed on your machine, then copy paste that text into a file, and run the docker command mentioned in the same directory as the file.

Trust me, you want to learn this, because after the first 15 minutes of confusion, you suddenly have the holy grail to self hosting right at your fingertips. It takes me all of 5 minutes to add a new service to my homelab all because it’s so easy with docker. And it’s so ubiquitous and popular! TrueNAS SCALE uses docker for all its apps, the idea of containers essentially reshaped Linux desktop to be what it is today, with flatpaks and all.

How’s performance on that setup? I own the case and am looking to do the exact same vdev setup this next year, but am wondering if the wider vdevs negatively impact performance in any noticeable way. Also wondering if 128gb of ram is too little for that kind of setup with 20tb drives, I feel like I might have to find out the hard way…

And yet, reddit is still being used with pretty much identical traffic to before all of this (the “exodus” is essentially a rounding error when you compare reddit traffic variation to other platforms’ traffic variation, a statistical variation that can be ignored), moderators are still moderating, and this entire debacle will be almost entirely forgotten in a few months. Except now they don’t have competing phone clients, they can shove their nft crap and ads down redditors’ throats, and the IPO won’t be affected by this at this rate.

I thought it would be different. I thought there was no way the majority of reddit would find it so hard to leave. It’s harder to leave other platforms when they prioritize you connecting with your own peers, but reddit? A news aggregator with comments? People simply didn’t care enough to leave.

As I mentioned, I went through the whole process a month ago, when I did see this exact behavior and I understand it perfectly. Right now, though? Why wouldn’t it show up at all? After a month with my account mostly empty, I’d expect to be able to see such comments. Yet, no matter how I sort it all, I don’t see those comments.

Why would comments not show up on your overview but show up on threads they were posted on? How hard can it be to do a SELECT WHERE on a db? Even if you assume things get cropped for performance, eventually the comments should show up in your account overview. I found one today, which just didn’t show up in my account overview, and I deleted EVERYTHING on my account a month ago.

Yes, but I definitely found comments that were mine, which didn’t show up in my account but showed up in the threads where they were posted, purely through Google searches just like the one described on this post.

I just did a search just like OP said and while it’s true that most results are just outdated scraped content where my posts and comments have been deleted, I did find one just now that doesn’t appear on my account overview, but that I could see, edit, and delete on the reddit thread itself.

I don’t think they care about what goes onto the canvas as much as they care about the increased traffic this brings. How many reddit refugees are going back just to vandalize /r/place? Even if that demographic is relatively small, this still drives up engagement from all demographics, and the greedy little pig boi needs those numbers for his IPO. I’m guessing he’s going with “any publicity is good publicity”.

Yeah honestly it’s pretty appealing of an idea to go back just to make a mess on the canvas or send a coordinated message, but - and I know most won’t do this - the best strategy is to just…not engage. Avoid participating, avoid going to check the canvas or the site… just pretend it isn’t happening.

Pretty much same as you: If it works for NASA or it’s a heavenly body, it works for me. Main PC is called SATURN V (SATURN for most things). Laptop is called HYPERION. Currently saving up to replace SATURN with ARTEMIS. Might throw in a GAIA NAS/virtualization server at some point, if cash flow allows for it. I’m not as picky about my family’s devices that I’ve set up, though… They’ll keep their randomly generated names, mostly out of laziness.
