I like looking at women.
Having a female character and trying out a variety of cool outfits, dresses and make-up is fun. Especially as most games allow you to do a lot of customisation for female characters. Barbie in Night City, Barbie in Skyrim, Barbie in the post-Apocalypse. I can happily spend far too much time getting their outfit and make-up just right, before I even get down to kicking ass.
Female bad-asses are far more interesting than the boring male action hero stereotype.
Games are escapist fun. I’m a man. I’m tall, I do weight lifting. Why would I play as a man who looks like me, when I can play as a woman, something I would otherwise not get to experience?

I did the sums, and the US would have been able to fund a large moonbase for the next century, mine asteroids AND seriously begin colonising Mars.
But instead of becoming an interplanetary power, the US chose to blow up brown farmers.
Bit of a tangent, but I find it insane that the US spent over 2000 billion to fight the war in Afghanistan, but congress is unwilling to authorise giving the Ukrainians 60 billion. A relatively small amount, that means Ukrainians can keep fighting Russia, decreasing the likelihood of American troops ever having to get involved in a war in Europe.
TBH I still use reddit sometimes. The level of debate may be trash, but it’s useful for niche stuff.

Non-profit social media isn’t exactly healthy either.
I know beehaw is a relative safe haven, but venture to other instances in the fediverse and you’ll find cesspits of toxicity that are as bad as it gets.
And given what my experiences with toxic positivity, cancelling and culture wars in minority run communities which should know better, I doubt beehaw doesn’t have its fair share of toxicity too. Even if you manage to keep out the worst bigots, people who have been hurt or bullied, quite often end up hurting or bullying others.

Can’t you simply register an account on old.reddit without using email (they ask but you leave it empty) and after changing your IP with your VPN?

Not that there’s any point. If you’re not interacting with bots or copy-pasted comments, you’re interacting with morons and people who think internet points matter.

For example, /r/videos supposedly has 30 million subscribers, but you can sometimes hit the front page of that sub with 50 upvotes.
Subs like that have been decimated by tiktok, so it’s safe to assume most of the subscribers have left. It simply doesn’t make sense.
