Reddit@lemmy.world•/r/Tennessee doesn't want people posting about the Tuesday election
7 monthsLol, what a garbage site. They have so many different layouts and versions of the site that I’m not surprised they fucked up on (at least) one of them.
The more complicated you make something, the more room you are giving yourself to fuck up.
So better lesson on Reddit: just don’t bother with it.

I always waited a minimum of 30 days, and more usually 90 days, before returning to a sub. And started slowly. Comments get much less attention than posts.

7 monthsThe key is to prevent any one human (or associated group) from gaining too much power. With limited exceptions, it ends poorly.

Reddit@lemmy.world•/r/Tennessee doesn't want people posting about the Tuesday election
7 monthsI finally left the platform entirely a few months ago, but for a time I maintained an account for discussion on hobby and niche topics. Nothing political, and it would be a real stretch to call any of it controversial. After I got a very dubious account suspension, I just said “fuck it” and moved on.
Can’t say I miss it either. It’s a fucking cesspool.

7 monthsreddit is only worse than lemmy because it is centralized by one group of douchebags
That’s a really big distinguishing factor though. When a group gets “too big to fail,” it becomes a problem by giving said group too much control. Look at the genocide apologist mods on /r/worldnews .
The de-centralization / fragmentation of Lemmy is an important check against bad moderation.

7 monthsNo outside political agitators (This is a broad one, but if we look at your post history and all you do is spam geographical subs stirring the political cauldron we will remove your post and ban you from this sub)
The lesson on Reddit (if you still use that platform) is to hide your history. I’m guessing they used this rule for the ban. Bans from subs should exclusively be for content posted on that sub. If something is bad enough to warrant a sitewide ban, that is another matter.
Anyhow, there are is another post about the election: https://old.reddit.com/r/Tennessee/comments/1p36q6s/millions_pour_into_tennessee_special_election/
It’s been acting really squirrely on my phone (no, I don’t use the app), to the point where I’ve just don’t bother with it anymore. It seems like they are changing stuff, and I’m done with it.
They don’t want people jumping ship. How else are the billionaires supposed to control the narrative.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit has become worse and worse in the last couple of years.
11 monthsNow the latest saga involves subreddits now banning you for participating in other subreddit they think are bad.
This isn’t new, and a significant reason that I segmented my alts was so that I didn’t comment in “opposing” subs.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Nobody is really talking about Reddit dropping value since they banned Luigi posts and sided with Musk to remove communities
1 yearLosing after siding with a loser. Entirely predictable outcome.
The message specifically said it was due to the “unusually large tip”. They wanted me to confirm that it was intended.
If the article linked below is to be believed, the credit card company does indeed know how much of the transaction is a tip due to the way the transaction is processed. Note that this was at a full-service restaurant, not tipping at the counter for fast food or some other thing.
Consider when you pay with a credit card at a sit-down restaurant, they read the card first. Then you write in the tip on the receipt, meaning that they process this part later after the initial card reading. It is probably different with the tabletop self-checkout devices though.
https://www.quora.com/Why-do-tips-given-in-restaurants-never-show-on-credit-card-statements
I’ve had transactions flagged for (intentionally) leaving large tips before. These large tips were justified for various reasons, such as comped meals.
Could be the specific credit card company I use?
A 50% tip can get your credit card flagged as potentially fraudulent activity.
And tipping culture has creeped in both magnitude (i.e. 15% used to be standard, but now it’s the low end) and scope (e.g. tips prompts at fucking fast food places)

We need to start using U.S. troops to make these food deliveries. These types of “mistakes” would stop immediately.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit CEO Defends His Absurdly High Pay While Not Paying Mods
2 yearsand usually you can find the same community topic on another instance and not miss out on much
One of the worst things about Reddit is that you have some subs that are basically “too big to fail.” You have THE sub for a specific topic. Unless it’s really a niche topic with a small community to begin with, this is not a good thing.
If the sub has bad mods, you’re out of luck. Or you have a bad knock-off sub that gets like 1% of the traffic.

Not work from home, “work from home” (i.e. not in the office) somewhere fun.
I have no problem setting up at home and getting down to business. But sitting on a beach or in a park might not work out the same. Realistically, there are issues with lighting, ergonomics, having power, internet connectivity, etc.
