  • I found Reddit so useful that I would have paid but only for the user experience I wanted. not the stream of vomit their app wanted to show me. Im almost 40, I’ve got a pretty good job I can cover another subscription. I wouldnt have liked it, but I could have.

This is what pisses me off about tech companies. Tell me “for $20 a month you get the fully customisable app with no tracking for advertising or data mining or use the free add supported, try and sell you shit app” give me the option, I will pay to not be annoyed.

  • Im fine with it because this isnt me.

Jack and the beanstalk (the folk tale) was first published it 1734 (the story of a boy who goes to market with a cow and is talked into exchanging it for “magic beans”) in 1734 the key premise of the story was a person making terrible purchases.

The expression “a fool and his money will soon be parted” or a variation of that was first published in 1573 “A foole & his money, be soone at debate: which after with sorow, repents him to late.”

People being dumb with money isnt new, if you think targeted advertising, or any modern form of advertising is the root cause (admittedly it definitely cant be helping the situation) Id argue that this is a part of the base human condition.

  • I think after 11 years I finally realised that I was just fed up with internet strangers. I have a few wheelhouses that I’m well informed in but every time I tried to help someone gain a deeper understanding of an issue Id get argued with or worse.

Trying to have a reasonable conversation about how to get the best deal on something only to get brigaded by people who want the world to be a socialist utopia derailing the conversation. Like yeah I agree but capitalism is the system we have and you either work the system or the system works you.

By the time they switched off RIF I was only there for the memes.
