I’ve been using sync since 2017ish or so and the long absences didn’t bother me nearly as much because reddit wasn’t constantly changing like Lemmy is. I happily paid for sync for reddit, but I won’t pay for sync for Lemmy until he commits to at least fixing annoying small issues whenever a new Lemmy version drops. I’ve defended the author in the past but I’m honestly getting quite frustrated with the lack of updates and radio silence for months at a time while Lemmy is dropping updates quite often. I don’t care about new features, just maintain parity with the latest Lemmy version, I’m sick of my posts showing as unread when I know I’ve read them.
Just small updates to keep up with new Lemmy versions, no need to make huge updates all the time, the app is already awesome, it just needs to maintain parity with Lemmy. Or at least acknowledge that he’s aware of the problems and will be fixing them, I don’t need a timeline but just a “hey I hear you, I’m working on the next update” would be much better than constantly disappearing.
All that said, I still have an immense amount of respect for LJ and I hope he’s doing well. This is just an app for nerds, real life takes priority obviously and I understand that. But I’m frustrated at how long it’s taking to fix basic bugs like posts not showing as read.
Oh. My. God…
So what you’re saying is, I need to dip myself in egg and then get fried? Will that finally get my parents to be proud of me?
What is my purpose?
I had this problem, I also couldn’t upvote after my instance upgraded to lemmy 0.19. Logging out and logging back in fixed all my issues.
“what’s the point of introducing new taxes against the rich? They’ll just find ways to avoid it so let’s just not do anything that might harm their profit margins or else it’ll make the poor even poorer”
Then wtf is the solution? Everybody says this whenever higher taxes for corporations and the rich is brought up, that they’ll just find new ways to avoid touching their precious profits. Should everyone just collectively do nothing because “they’ll find ways to avoid it so why bother”
This defeatist attitude pisses me off, something needs to be done to curb this bullshit. Literally no one needs or deserves hundreds of millions, let alone billions of dollars, and this cancerous “profits must go up every year or your company is a failure” needs to fucking die already. Why do companies making hundreds of millions to billions of dollars in profit need more fucking money? Why can’t being rich af and literally not being able to spend your net worth in a single lifetime be enough?
We went from 1 salary at a factory being enough to raise a family, buy a house, buy a car, and go for a yearly vacation being normal to even 2 highly educated people working together and sharing expenses barely being able to afford a fucking house. Now the average person is expected to give a giant portion of their monthly earnings to pay off some parasitic landlords mortgage plus some profit for the “trouble” of being a fucking parasite.
Eat the fucking rich. Enough is enough.
The factory may need those resources to grow at some point. Best to stash em away just in case.

Oye beltalowda, fo keng to im gut.

Agreed, I’ve been using sync since 2016 and yeah the Dev disappeared here and there for a bit but it was always for personal reasons. Shit happens. The drama was definitely a bit much IMO.
That being said, I’m absolutely sick of everything turning into subscriptions, I’ll wait for either the lifetime option or just removing ads.
Regardless of why you do it, I, and I’m sure many others are very grateful for your contribution! Thank you!
Just wanted to say, I love people with attitudes like yours. Figure out something challenging and then immediately put your knowledge to use by helping others through the challenges you just faced.
Kudos 👍
Yes, I’m aware of that.
