Never before have I been so excited for a beta app. Thank you Ljdawson!
- 🦥@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
My only criticism is the subscription fee instead of a one off charge for the full set of features. I would like a lot of them but I don’t need cloud sync or another ongoing cost to worry about.

I’ve just pushed beta 25 which adds the option to remove the ads as a one time purchase.
Hopefully they’ll approve the update within the next 24 hours
- Razp@lemm.eeEnglish3 years
Does it just remove the ads visualization or actually disables all related data collection and tracking?
- SageMarble@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
I’m pretty sure analytics is optional even if you didn’t pay a dime but feel free to correct me on that

3 years<3 can tell you did some on the backend… smoother than reddit’s client
- daFRAKKINpope@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
Lemmy doesn’t. The app might. I don’t use sync but if I’m an app developer I could make money plugging advertisements into my app. If I design the UI well enough, and make the ads unobtrusive, I might just make enough money and not piss anyone off.

3 yearsAgree. That’s a no from me. I’d pay if I like it, but injecting ads into the feed and I’m out. Just trying liftoff now. Seems solid.

3 yearsHe wrote in another thread there will be a lifetime price for us who hates subscriptions. It’s coming.
- overlordror@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
That’s good to know. I bought several Reddit apps over my 15 year history with the site, I don’t have a problem supporting developers but I absolutely hate the subscription model. It feels like letting a colony of ticks leech off of you when literally EVERYONE is doing it.

It better be coming within the 20th of August, cause that’s when my Google rewards balance is expiring.
SanguinePar@lemmy.worldEnglish
3 yearsIt’s already here (although maybe not in all regions?), it’s an option in the drawer:

He said in another comment in this chain he’s submitted the update with the one-time ad removal and is just waiting for approval.
- Bolleeer@programming.devEnglish3 years
Well, looking at the prices, I guess it’ll do with a small discount…

3 yearsIt’s like having Reddit back, this is amazing. 🙏
For as long as I can remember Reddit and Sync have been one and the same. I never used Reddit website or app, only ever used Sync to browse Reddit hosted content. I used it a lot. I’ve missed it a lot.
Between the Lemmy platform and Sync client, to all intents and purposes what Reddit was has been fully restored/migrated.
I know it’s early days, but I did not expect to see anything like this so soon and it gives me hope that Lemmy can grow and thrive into the network of people that always made Reddit what it was. Everything that’s needed is there - early, a little rough around the edges, but there. And being improved constantly.
Hallelujah!

It feels so surreal to be in a newly-budding set of communities with the same UI I fell in love with years ago.
Thank you, LJ!

So happy to have the sync icon back in its spot on my homescreen! Thanks LJ!!

I feel this so much. First had jerboa there and then liftoff. No shade to either of those but having sync back is just so great.
- charles@lemmy.caEnglish3 years
I’d tried voyager, then connect, and finally had settled on Liftoff. All are great apps especially for how quickly they were published but Sync just feels so much better to me after having used it for years for Reddit. Feels so good to be back!!

3 yearsLiterally the first thread I reply to on the app.
Feels so good to be back!
- phamanhvu01@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
I don’t know honestly, didn’t even pay attention to that when I took that screenshot lol
- Murvel@lemm.eeEnglish3 years
The GDPR consent settings is ludicrous. It reads like fucking spyware and I cannot fathom why, someone please explain!
The vendor settings alone is like 300 different vendors all with their own preselected consent button, ffs!
- 3 years
You are just being made aware of how many vendors your data will be shared with by default.
- phamanhvu01@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
Eh that’s beta apps for you, pretty sure Ljdawson will improve it at some point.
- Isthisreddit@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
Yeah I just saw that. RIP
I’m making a stand and abandoning reddit like digg
- camillaSinensis@reddthat.comEnglish3 years
I was on the verge of abandoning reddit before when I could only use RIF to browse logged out, but now that it’s gone for good…goodbye, reddit. I wonder if it’ll affect things like reddit traffic at all. Time will tell, I suppose.
- Coyote Hart@lemmy.worldEnglish3 years
In order for something to be on F-Droid, it needs to adhere to being FOSS, which is free and open source software. Sync is not open source .
