World News@beehaw.org•Thousands of pets being abandoned in Dubai as owners flee over Iran war
3 monthsGod I hate this timeline.
As a Framework owner, this meme is absolutely correct.
You mean “ra conditionsce”?
“Wanna see me turn a dozen lines of imperative code into a single expression?”
“Wanna see me do it again?”
This. I’ve been writing some game mods in it recently and LINQ is… pretty nice.
switchexpressions, too. This is coming from a dude formerly from the “OOP Boilerplater” camp, though, so maybe I just have low standards.
Yeah, I’m kinda confused by that one too—Computerphile is CS theory, not software engineering.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Stop using MySQL in 2026, it is not true open sourceEnglish
5 monthsHell, even SQLite is good enough for most small projects.
The best part of this is that some of them are true.
I’ve been on the internet for two decades and never seen that initialism.

10 monthsYou’ve cut off some important context here:
Nobody wants to watch a 30-minute video for something that can be summed up in a 250-word article.
I’m fine with watching a 30-minute video if that format adds value. It doesn’t here, just gimme a write-up.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•First exposure to floating-point arithmetic
1 yearMore devs should learn to use Rational types. A pretty large majority of the numbers that people care about in real life can easily be represented by a ratio of integers, and they allow math with perfect precision.
eta: even monetary types are just a form of Rational, with the denominators clamped to powers of ten
Sigh. Guess I need the joke explained?
What’s wrong with strict types?
Fuck ChatGPT.
I seem to recall coming across a glossary that had something to the effect of,
mutual recursion - see recursion, mutual
recursion, mutual - see mutual recursion
Yep, checks out to me.

World News@beehaw.org•Canada goose fights off bald eagle in rare, symbolism-laden battle on ice
1 yearI mean, I’m not really shocked. If you’ve ever seen bald eagles in the wild, they behave more like overgrown seagulls than the dignified predators you’ve been conditioned to expect - they even sound ridiculous.
Canada geese, though? They’ll straight up fuck you up.

You better check again, mine got switched back on.
