Cake day: June 19th, 2025
  • Based on what I read/saw and got out of it, I am real disappointed it looks like it’s gonna be using genAI instead of another form of AI we’ve been using for transcription. Otherwise, sounds like trying to be a modern genAI version of that speech to text software I’d see ads for on TV. Possibly good for accessibility, but I’ll wait and see after it comes out.

At least they claim the whole thing to be done offline after model installation and it’s allegedly sandboxed with the audio data being stored in a memory buffer that allegedly will be erased after the session. So I’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out before making more judgments on it.

  • Coal LLC has been good over the past couple days without internet since I don’t care about steam save backups for that game.

I also recently installed my Oblivion GOTY copy from the 2000s on my potato desktop. Got through creating an argonian named Jabber and got part way through the escape route before stopping. Hopefully in a few months I can upgrade my desktop so I can play without the minor FPS issues and resulting gameplay jitters I have to deal with. Also bummed I couldn’t use the Unlock console command to go in and kill the other prisoner.

Otherwise, I have not been playing many other games outside the odd game of Rhythm Heaven Fever and Megamix or how I scummed my way through most of a 20 turn of mario party 5.

  • I’ve tried Timerborn once before and wasn’t able to get into it since my toaster desktop couldn’t run it well under windows. 10, but I’m willing to give it another try on either my deck or laptop some day in the future.

I’d also be down to try Frostpunk some day since it’s been long enough since I watched a playthrough that I wouldn’t mind trying it.

As to whether or not I’d like either, that’s the question of the hour. Kinda forgot both existed until you brought them up.

It’s been my very much needed weekend destress game. One of those games, similar to Cloverpit, where I thought I wouldn’t like it… until I played it.

    Slay The Spire

I’d love to play STP2, but I am saving money for a trip first weekend of April. It’s probably gonna be some time mid April or May when I can finally get the early access, assuming they don’t take it down for whatever reason.

    Sonic Rush Adventure

Also a much needed destress game. Perfect for on the go on my 3DS.

  • Recently a gamed called Super Chipflake Ü: Quest for the uncooked Schnitzel released and I originally wasn’t gonna buy it because I thought it was gonna be a switch exclusive. Either way, I bought it when I found it is also on Steam. The trailer on steam and probably yt as well should tell you enough about this kinda silly game that I spent a few hours over the weekend playing.

I also started playing Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time on my steam deck since the disc copy I got keeps freezing in 2 PS3 consoles. First world in and I give it a yikes. The other games definitely had some probably slightly offensive stereotypes, but the 4th game opening up with a level called “Turning Japanese” and the way Rioichi speaks rubs me kinda wrong, despite it being a fun game.

Otherwise, I just got back into Slay The Spire and am still hate playing the Oaken Tower beta demo.

Edit: first game I listed came out January 18th. Made by a small German indie studio.

  • The second I saw someone mention A Hat In Time my mind sprung to thinking Yooka-Laylee as a viable option. It’s made by a studio founded by ex-RAR employees, IIRC, and has been a game I’ve played on and off but find a lot of fun. Especially from an exploration standpoint.

Game is basically running through a giant hub, going from level to level, collecting magic book pages, all in order to get back a book that was stolen from one of the main characters. Levels are pretty big too, with expansions as well. Has a Banjo Kazooie vibe, from what I know about that franchise.

There’s also a switch port, assuming you don’t feel like spending $19.99 on Steam for the original ( 7.48GB space required ) or $29.99 for the remaster ( 25.96GB space required )

  • Just finished the holiday carrolling quest in Toontown Rewritten last night.

I have also recently been having fun with the KilaFlow demo. It’s a 3D platformer that has you playing through each level multiple times but is still really fun because it can be fairly fast paced.

But I think my crowning achievement for games played this month was beating my first ever fallout new vegas run a couplendays ago. Embarrassed the Legate with just a fully modded war club… before embarrassing Oliver with Salt Upon Wound’s Fist after talking him down in a House run.

  • I just started the demo to the Pokemon Shard fan game. It’s looks pretty nice and plays nice as well.

I also just started playing the Dungeon Clawler beta update with the new fire character. So far, fire is a weak debuff that I could never see myself playing with intentionally.

Also just went through and got the last ducks I needed to unlock the credits level of Fling To The Finish and I think it’s clever to make the end credits a playable level that doesn’t feel out of place.

Otherwise, I have made some progress on Toon Town Rewritten. Slowly slogging and grinding my way through.

  • If you want any games for switch to work as intended, without a bunch of lag or any major fiddling to get that one specific game to work, switch/2 is sadly the only way to go.

As for the deck route, absolutely depends on various things. Is she okay with piracy and will she know? Do y’all plan on using it just for switch emulation or are there other games on other consoles/Steam/other storefronts that are gonna be emulated/installed? If yes to questions like that, deck would be the way to go. More bang for your buck due to not being limited to a single games ecosystem.

Also, another thing to think about, is that there are current, IIRC, Zer0 switch 2 emulators that can do much of anything, so you’d have to emulate the switch 1 version of games on something like Ryubing Ryujinx. Do you wanna wait for a switch 2 emulator that might not be able to run that less popular title you like because they’re focusing on the big triple AAA titles? Good to keep this in mind, IMO.

  • Okay, so, I got a copy of Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast and played a little last night and I was super excited. I broke my personal rule of not buying Japanese games straight from Japan because the eBay price was real cheap. If I had a cap for my VMU and was sure the thing worked when batteries are in, I would absolutely have a Chao with me on the go, probably a day I know the odds of me losing my VMU or damaging it was low.

I also have been enjoying a pokemon fan game called Pokemon Berilo. It’s a fan game in Spanish that has an ENG translation version. Currently a demo build but might be lengthy. I’ve played for a few hours and am basically just getting to gym 1 because I have been so busy with side quests and catching things. I love it because they have a custom pause menu UI and that’s so much nicer than the maybe 2 defaults people use for their games.
